NASRIN, who has been detained since her arrest on 4 September 2010, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison and banned from practicing law for 20 years.  She is convicted of charges of “acting against national security,” “not wearing hejab during a videotaped message,” and “propaganda against the regime.”
NASRIN has undertakes three hunger strikes to protest conditions of her detention.  She is reportedly frail

We the undersigned urge:
- Nasrin be treated humanely while in detention, and

- Consider the UN Basic Principles of the Role of Lawyers; lawyers must be allowed to carry out their work
“without intimidation, hindrance, harassment or improper interference.”   The Principles also affirm the right to
lawyers to freedom of expression.
-Consider Article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, states “the right to take part in
public discussion of matters concerning the law, the administration of justice and the promotion and protection of
human rights.”

NASRIN SOTOUDEH is a Prison of Conscience (POC) targeted solely for her peaceful work representing clients and urge
she be immediately and unconditionally released.
