Dear Senior General Than Shwe:
We respectfully urge you to take swift action to free prisoner of conscience and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and all other prisoners of conscience in Myanmar.
For 13 of the past 20 years, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has endured detention, house arrest and restrictions on her movement. This harassment of the leader of the National League for Democracy has greatly harmed Myanmar’s reputation in the international community.
Sadly, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is one of more than 2,100 political prisoners currently detained in Myanmar. We urge you to bring about the immediate and unconditional release of all those detained for the peaceful expression of their human rights. Thank you
